TCF Canada Scores and NCLC Levels

IRCC converts each TCF Canada ability separately. The current key thresholds are NCLC 7: listening 458–502, reading 453–498, writing 10–11 and speaking 10–11; NCLC 9: listening 523–548, reading 524–548, writing and speaking 14–15. You must meet the target in every ability; a total score cannot compensate for a low skill.

What NCLC 7 and NCLC 9 do

The Express Entry French-language category generally requires NCLC 7 in all four French abilities, plus eligibility for an Express Entry program. NCLC 9 can improve some selection or ranking outcomes, but it does not guarantee an invitation; start with the lowest ability.

French CRS additional points

With NCLC 7 or higher in all four French abilities, the additional amount is 50 points when all four English abilities are CLB 5 or higher, or 25 points when English is CLB 4 or lower or no English test was taken. Rankings and rounds still change.

Validity and practice-score limits

For Express Entry, results generally must be less than two years old when the profile is created and when the permanent-residence application is submitted. A practice accuracy rate is not a direct NCLC conversion; use the official result statement and current IRCC chart.

How many correct answers do I need for NCLC 7?

There is no fixed number of correct answers that guarantees an official NCLC level. France Éducation international uses the psychometric difficulty of each listening and reading question to transform correct answers into a 100–699 score. Only correct answers count; wrong or blank answers receive zero. Use the score on your official result statement, not a practice percentage, for the IRCC conversion.
