Using TCF Canada for Alberta Accelerated Tech Pathway

Alberta's Accelerated Tech Pathway does not set one universal standalone TCF Canada score. You must qualify under CEC, FSWP, or FSTP and meet that federal program's language threshold. CEC TEER 0/1 and FSWP use NCLC 7 in all abilities, while CEC TEER 2/3 uses NCLC 5.

The federal program sets the language threshold

Accelerated Tech is part of the Alberta Express Entry Stream and does not impose a universal standalone NCLC or TCF minimum. You need an active Express Entry profile and eligibility under the Canadian Experience Class, Federal Skilled Trades Program, or Federal Skilled Worker Program. Your federal program and occupational TEER determine the French threshold.

CEC and FSWP TCF Canada scores

CEC for TEER 0/1 occupations and FSWP require NCLC 7 in all four abilities: speaking 10, listening 458, reading 453, and writing 10. CEC for TEER 2/3 requires NCLC 5 in all four: speaking 6, listening 369, reading 375, and writing 6. Each ability must meet its own minimum.

FSTP uses a mixed threshold

The Federal Skilled Trades Program requires NCLC 5 for speaking and listening and NCLC 4 for reading and writing. The TCF Canada minimums are speaking 6, listening 369, reading 342, and writing 4. Do not substitute the CEC NCLC 5 reading threshold of 375.

Express Entry and CRS 300 foundation

You need an active Express Entry profile, a CRS score of 300 or more, and intent and ability to live and work permanently in Alberta. The primary occupation in your profile must be the same as your current Alberta employment or job offer. Higher French scores may improve CRS but do not replace pathway eligibility.

Eligible tech occupation, employer, and full-time offer

At application and assessment, you must work full-time in Alberta or hold a bona fide full-time Alberta job offer. The occupation must be on Alberta's live eligible Accelerated Tech Pathway occupation list, and the employer's primary business must be in an eligible tech industry under the live eligible NAICS list. Check both official lists rather than relying on a title.

Immigration status and excluded work arrangements

If you already work for the Alberta employer, you need valid immigration status, such as a valid work permit or maintained status, at application and assessment. Part-time, casual, and seasonal work is ineligible, as are independent contractor or temporary agency arrangements and work performed remotely from outside Alberta.

Result validity, Worker EOI, and selection

Express Entry language results must be less than 2 years old when you create the profile and when you submit permanent residence. Alberta's current worker process starts with a Worker Expression of Interest, or Worker EOI. Selection factors and parameters may vary by draw, and eligibility does not guarantee an invitation, nomination, or permanent residence.
