TCF Canada Writing Tasks and Word Requirements

TCF Canada writing has 3 tasks in 60 minutes: a 60–120-word message, a 120–150-word experience report or narrative with comments, opinions or arguments, and a 120–180-word text comparing two viewpoints from source documents and taking a position. Complete all three in order and stay within each word range.

Task 1: a 60–120-word message

Describe, narrate and/or explain something to the recipient or recipients named in the prompt. Cover every requested fact first, then check the relationship, register and word count instead of spending the opening minutes polishing one sentence.

Task 2: a 120–150-word report or narrative

Write an article, letter or note for several recipients to report an experience or tell a story, adding comments, an opinion or arguments for the stated purpose. A clear background–events–result–view structure is safer than a memorized template that does not answer the prompt.

Task 3: compare viewpoints in 120–180 words

Compare the two viewpoints in the documents and then state and support your own position. Summarize both sources accurately, connect the differences to your reasoning, and finish with a conclusion; do not merely repeat one document.
