TCF Canada Exam Format and Scoring
For Canadian immigration, all four TCF Canada modules are required: listening with 39 questions (about 35 minutes), reading with 39 questions (60 minutes), writing with 3 tasks (60 minutes), and speaking with 3 tasks (about 12 minutes). Listening and reading are reported on the 100-699 scale, writing and speaking out of 20, and IRCC converts results to NCLC levels.
Listening: 39 questions, about 35 minutes
Each recording plays once, and difficulty progresses from everyday exchanges to longer monologues. Train with timed full sets to build a stable one-pass answering rhythm.
Reading: 39 questions, 60 minutes
Documents progress from signs and short messages to long texts. Finishing 39 questions in 60 minutes requires steady reading speed; practice complete sets and review your error patterns after submission.
Writing and speaking: 3 tasks each
Writing has 3 tasks in 60 minutes, from a short message to an argued text; speaking has 3 tasks in about 12 minutes, face to face with an examiner and recorded. Both are graded out of 20; NCLC 7 requires at least 10.
