Exam rhythm
- 1You have about 1.5 minutes per question on average: be fast on short texts and steady on long texts.
- 2Answer questions with clear evidence first; do not stay too long on one doubtful option.
- 3For later long texts, catch paragraph function, author attitude and logic before details.
- 4Reserve a few minutes at the end for blanks and options that lack evidence.

- 1Read the question and options first, then return to the text to locate evidence.
- 2Identify the text type: notice, email, message, advertisement, menu, news, instruction or opinion article.
- 3Correct answers often paraphrase the text; compare meaning, not only repeated words.
- 4After contrast markers such as mais, cependant, pourtant and en revanche, check the author stance carefully.
- 5Absolute choices with tout, toujours, jamais or aucun need clear textual support.
After submission
- 1Find the evidence sentence before reading the explanation.
- 2Classify mistakes as slow locating, missed paraphrase, missed detail, or wrong main idea/attitude.
- 3For each distractor, name the problem: unsupported, too broad, opposite direction, changed detail, or wrong tone.
- 4Train next by text type: notices, emails/messages, ads, or long opinion texts.

3. Find key sentences
Opening, closing and post-contrast sentences often carry the main idea.

Correct answers often use different words with the same meaning.
5. Eliminate distractors
Remove extreme, unsupported, off-topic or detail-changing options.
6. Read author attitude
Positive, negative, neutral or critical wording helps eliminate opposite choices.
7. Watch absolute words
Choices with tout, toujours, jamais or aucun need explicit textual proof.

- How many questions and minutes are in TCF Canada reading?
- France Éducation international lists 39 multiple-choice questions in 60 minutes, with one correct answer per question.
- How many correct reading answers guarantee NCLC 7?
- There is no official raw-correct shortcut that applies to every test version. FEI weights item difficulty and converts correct answers to a 100–699 score; IRCC currently starts reading NCLC 7 at 453. Use the score on your official result statement.
- Are wrong reading answers penalized?
- No. FEI says only correct answers count; wrong or blank answers receive zero, so a practice accuracy percentage is not an official conversion table.
