TCF Canada writing scoring criteria and review method
TCF Canada writing is not just a count of grammar errors. The official format asks for three different tasks with precise ranges: 60–120 words for task 1, 120–150 for task 2 and 120–180 for task 3. Review whether you answered the prompt, organized information clearly, matched the audience and register, and achieved the communication goal. The checks here translate public requirements into practice; they are not an internal rubric or a score prediction.
Check task completion before grammar
Mark the recipient, purpose, required information and text type before drafting. A linguistically accurate response that misses a central action is still incomplete, while a few repairable errors do not automatically erase all content. Secure the communication goal before polishing sentences.
Task 1: a message for a stated audience
Task 1 asks you to describe, narrate or explain to one or more specified recipients in 60–120 words. Check a clear purpose, required facts or request and an appropriate closing. The register for a friend, neighbour, colleague or organization should not be mixed.
Task 2: an account with a purpose
Task 2 asks for an article, letter or note for multiple readers, using an experience or account with comments, opinions or arguments that serve a stated purpose, in 120–150 words. Review audience, event order, commentary and final purpose rather than relying on one universal opening.
Task 3: compare two viewpoints
Task 3 compares two documents about a social issue and asks for your position in 120–180 words. Identify each viewpoint, show a similarity or difference, then conclude with your own position. Do not copy the documents or replace comparison with an unrelated opinion.
Use one review sheet
Record five checks: required actions, word range, structure, register and the three language issues that most affect clarity. Write under time first, then rewrite one priority. Site AI writing feedback supports practice; it is not an official score or guarantee.
