Using TCF Canada for Alberta Opportunity Stream (AAIP)

Alberta Opportunity Stream accepts TCF Canada. If your current occupation is NOC TEER 0, 1, 2, or 3, every French ability must reach at least NCLC 5. TEER 4 or 5 requires NCLC 4 in every French ability. NOC 33102 is an exception and requires NCLC 7 in every French ability.

Use the TEER of your current occupation

AAIP uses the occupation you are working in when you apply. TEER 0 through 3 requires NCLC 5 in all four French abilities; TEER 4 or 5 requires NCLC 4 in all four French abilities. NOC 33102, nurse aides, orderlies and patient service associates, has a special NCLC 7 minimum in all four French abilities. Each ability must meet its own threshold.

Exact TCF Canada minimum scores

For NCLC 5, the TCF Canada minimums are speaking 6, listening 369, reading 375, and writing 6. For NCLC 4, they are speaking 4, listening 331, reading 342, and writing 4. For NCLC 7, they are speaking 10, listening 458, reading 453, and writing 10. Submit the official result from one complete sitting.

One result and the two-year rule

The required scores must come from a single test result; you cannot combine the best abilities from different sittings. The official result must be less than 2 years old when you submit the AAIP application. Alberta calculates its age from the date you took the test, not the date the result was released, and test registration is not a substitute.

You must already work in Alberta

This stream is for temporary foreign workers already working full-time in Alberta with an eligible full-time job offer or employment contract from an Alberta employer in the same current occupation. At application and assessment, you must keep an eligible valid work permit and continue meeting the occupation, employer, job-offer, and work-location rules.

Work experience and PGWP holders

The general routes are at least 12 months of full-time experience in the current occupation in Alberta within the last 18 months, or at least 24 months in the current occupation in Canada or abroad within the last 30 months. An eligible Post-Graduation Work Permit holder from an Alberta institution generally needs 6 months of full-time Alberta experience in the current occupation within the last 18 months and must meet the linked education and occupation rules.

Language is only one eligibility item

Most TEER 0 through 5 occupations can qualify, but Alberta publishes an ineligible-occupation list. You must also verify status and work permit, education or ECA, required licensing, work experience, current occupation, and employer and job-offer conditions. Meeting the TCF score does not establish AAIP eligibility by itself.

Worker EOI comes before an application

AAIP worker streams currently start with a Worker Expression of Interest, or Worker EOI. Only invited candidates can submit a stream application, and selection considers the points grid and Alberta labour-market priorities. Meeting the language minimum does not guarantee an invitation or nomination. AAIP means Alberta Advantage Immigration Program; do not confuse it with the Atlantic Immigration Program, often shortened to AIP.
