TCF Canada vs TCF Québec: Which Should You Take?
For federal economic immigration or citizenship with IRCC, choose TCF Canada, which France Éducation international identifies as IRCC-recognized. TCF Québec is designed for immigration applications to Québec's MIFI. TCF Canada has also been recognized by MIFI since 2022, so Québec applicants should verify the target program's accepted test and required skills before booking rather than deciding from the exam name alone.
Choose by the authority receiving your file
TCF Canada is for people proving French to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), including federal economic immigration and citizenship processes. TCF Québec is for an immigration application to Québec's MIFI. The current official program requirement is the source of truth before any payment.
The four skills are not required in the same way
TCF Canada has four mandatory tests: listening, reading, writing, and speaking. TCF Québec has four modules and candidates may take one to four according to their needs. A program may require particular skills or all of them, so do not choose from an old score table or third-party package.
How Québec applicants should decide
France Éducation international states that TCF Canada has also been recognized by MIFI since 2022. That does not replace checking the target Québec program's accepted tests, threshold, validity, and required skills. Then confirm the actual session with an approved centre.
Reuse practice, not the decision
Both tests assess general French ability, so timed listening and reading sets and the three writing and speaking tasks remain useful practice. After booking, align your target with the actual version you will submit and the skills your program needs; practice does not determine immigration eligibility.
