French Language Points for Canada Immigration: TCF, NCLC, and CRS
Raw TCF Canada results must be converted separately to NCLC for listening, reading, writing, and speaking. NCLC 7 in all four abilities meets the language requirement for Express Entry's French-language category and can unlock 25 or 50 CRS points; it does not satisfy every other program condition or guarantee an invitation.
Convert all four NCLC abilities
IRCC does not assess language eligibility from a TCF total. Each ability converts to NCLC, and a higher score in one ability cannot compensate for another below the threshold. Common NCLC 7 thresholds are 458 listening, 453 reading, and 10 in each expression ability.
French CRS additional-point conditions
With NCLC 7 in all four French abilities, the additional amount is 25 when English is not supplied or is no higher than CLB 4 in all abilities, and 50 when all four English abilities reach at least CLB 5. Since March 25, 2025, a valid job offer no longer directly adds 50 or 200 CRS points.
Program requirements do not replace one another
Express Entry, PSTQ, PEQ, and provincial programs can each impose occupation, education, experience, region, or round-specific conditions. Meeting a language condition is only one item to verify; consult the official page and current round instructions before applying.
